1. Arkansas Scenic Byway 7

Take a long slow drive down Arkansas Scenic Byway 7, one of America’s most beautiful routes. Start your journey in Hot Springs’ historic downtown, drive past Bathhouse Row in Hot Springs National Park and follow the road through the breathtaking Arkansas River Valley into the magnificent Ozark Mountains, famous for the beautiful fall foliage, and the Ozark National Forest.

If you follow the route for 137 miles all the way to the quaint mountain town of Jasper, you can enjoy a steaming cup of coffee and a hearty meal at the legendary Ozark Cafe that opened in 1909 before you head back down the road.

2. Hot Springs National Park

The beautiful and unique 5550-acre Hot Springs National Park, which runs through the middle of town, was the first piece of land in the United States designated for preservation. The park’s ancient thermal springs, historic bathhouses, breathtaking forests, and incredible mountain views offer visitors a unique natural experience.

Explore the picturesque surroundings on 26 miles of hiking trails, fish in the many creeks, soak in the springs, and enjoy a peaceful picnic under the trees.

3. Falls Creek Falls

Take a short 14-mile drive to Lake Catherine State Park at 1200 Catherine Park Road, just outside Hot Springs, to hike a mile along the shores of the lake to the most beloved swimming hole in the Ozarks.

Deep in the forest, the enchanting Falls Creek Falls tumbles 12 feet down over the moss-covered rocks into a shallow turquoise pool. The breathtaking surroundings, the magnificent color of the water, and the tranquil atmosphere make this a magical destination, especially after the rains.

4. Little Rock’s Six Bridges

Head to Little Rock, 54 miles away, to look at the six bridges over the Arkansas River. The impressive Big Dam Bridge at Murray Lock and Dam stretches an astounding 4,226 feet over the river and is North America’s longest pedestrian and cycling bridge. The 1,800-foot-long Junction Bridge was a railway bridge constructed in 1884 and is the only pedestrian bridge in the country with a lift span.

Baring Cross Bridge, Little Rock’s first bridge, opened in 1873 and is now a modern steel double-track with a lift navigation span and one of the busiest railroad bridges in the U.S. The 1,614-foot Clinton Presidential Park Bridge is part of the 88-mile multi-use Arkansas River Trail. Broadway Bridge has an enclosed 16-foot-wide bike lane to Dickey-Stephens Ballpark, and the Two Rivers Bridge offers scenic views of the Arkansas and Little Maumelle Rivers.
