2026 GMC Canyon Specs and Dimensions Hot Springs
Every published number for the 2026 Canyon, tied to the trim and configuration it actually belongs to. Engine, dimensions, curb weight per trim, towing and payload by trim, EPA ratings by drivetrain, and warranty.
This page carries the full specification set for the 2026 GMC Canyon: engine output, exterior and interior dimensions, curb weight by trim, towing and payload by configuration, EPA fuel-economy ratings by drivetrain, a feature grid, and GMC warranty coverage. For how the truck drives and which trim suits which buyer, read the 2026 Canyon overview. For the full trim-by-trim breakdown and step-up economics, see Canyon trims and pricing. Every figure below is stated for the trim or drivetrain it belongs to, because on this truck several of them change from one trim to the next.
Powertrain
2026 GMC Canyon Engine Specifications
2.7L TurboMax turbocharged four-cylinder, standard on every trim
There is one engine and one transmission across the whole 2026 Canyon lineup. No diesel, no hybrid, no output difference between the entry trim and the flagship.
| Specification | 2.7L TurboMax |
|---|---|
| Engine type | Turbocharged 2.7L inline-four (L3B) |
| Horsepower | 310 hp at 5,600 rpm |
| Torque | 430 lb-ft at 3,000 rpm |
| Transmission | 8-speed automatic |
| Rear axle ratio | 3.42 |
| Drivetrain | RWD standard on Elevation, 4WD available; 4WD standard on AT4, Denali and AT4X |
| Diesel or hybrid | Not offered on any 2026 Canyon trim |
GMC calls the 430 lb-ft figure best-in-class standard gas-engine torque for the mid-size segment. Practically, it is the reason a four-cylinder truck holds a gear on a grade with a trailer behind it.
Outside
2026 Canyon Exterior Dimensions
| Dimension | Measurement |
|---|---|
| Overall length | 213.2 in. |
| Wheelbase | 131.4 in. |
| Width, mirrors folded | 72.4 in. |
| Factory suspension lift | 2 in. on Elevation, AT4 and Denali; 3 in. on AT4X |
Curb weight is a per-trim number, not a lineup number. The spread from the lightest Canyon to the heaviest comes almost entirely from the drivetrain and the off-road hardware.
| Trim | Curb weight | Ground clearance | Approach angle | Departure angle |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Elevation 2WD | Curb weight 4,410 pounds | Not published by GMC | Not published by GMC | Not published by GMC |
| Elevation 4WD | Not published by GMC | Not published by GMC | Not published by GMC | Not published by GMC |
| AT4 | Not published by GMC | 9.6 in. | 33.5 degrees | 22.4 degrees |
| Denali | Not published by GMC | Not published by GMC | Not published | Not published |
| AT4X | 4,960 pounds | 10.7 in. | 37.1 degrees | 25.1 degrees |
The AT4 runs a 66.1-in. track width and a 21.0-degree breakover angle. The AT4X widens to 66.3 in. and improves breakover to 24.7 degrees. The AEV Edition package raises the factory lift to 4.5 in. Detailed trail figures live on the AT4 and AT4X off-road page.
Inside
2026 Canyon Interior Dimensions
One cab, one row of rear seats, five seatbelts. GMC publishes front headroom and front legroom and nothing else. Independent sources print second-row figures and they do not agree with each other, so this page prints none of them. The rear row is tight; sit in it before you sign.
| Measurement | Front row | Second row |
|---|---|---|
| Front headroom | 40.3 in. | Not published by GMC |
| Front legroom | 45.2 in. | Not published by GMC |
| Seating capacity | 2 | 3 |
Bed volume is 41.9 cu. ft., measured to the top of the bed rails, across 5.1 ft. of length and 4.8 ft. of width. There is no long bed and no extended cab on the 2026 Canyon. If the truck doubles as the school run in Bryant and the deer-lease hauler on the weekend, that second-row legroom figure is the one to sit in before you sign.
Capacity
Towing, Payload and Capability by Configuration
Every rating below is a Crew Cab figure on the 2.7L TurboMax with the 3.42 axle and the conventional hitch, because that is the only cab, the only engine and the only axle. Two trims sit below the headline tow number, and the payload figure moves at every step of the ladder. Both facts get misreported constantly.
| Trim | Max towing, properly equipped | Payload | GCWR |
|---|---|---|---|
| Elevation 2WD | 7,700 lbs | Payload 1,670 pounds | 13,250 pounds |
| Elevation 4WD | 7,700 lbs | Payload 1,610 pounds | 13,250 pounds |
| AT4 | 7,700 lbs | Payload 1,570 pounds | 13,250 pounds |
| Denali | 7,700 lbs | Payload 1,390 pounds | 13,250 pounds |
| AT4X | 6,000 lbs | Payload 1,260 pounds | 11,600 pounds |
| AEV Edition package | 5,500 lbs | Not published by GMC | 11,600 pounds |
Payload is the total of passengers, cargo and trailer tongue weight, not just what rides in the bed. The ProGrade Trailering System and the HD Rear Vision Camera with Hitch View are standard on every 2026 Canyon trim. A deeper treatment of matching trailer to trim lives on the Canyon towing capacity page.
Contact patch
Wheels, Tires and Brakes
The Elevation rides on 18-in. gloss black aluminum wheels with all-terrain tires. The AT4 gets 18-in. gloss black machined aluminum wheels, also on all-terrain tires. The Denali steps to 20-in. diamond-cut aluminum. An AT4X fitted with the AEV Edition package runs 17-in. AEV beadlock-capable Salta wheels wrapped in 35-in. Goodyear Wrangler Territory mud-terrain tires, and adds five AEV hot-stamped boron-steel skid plates underneath.
Every 2026 Canyon runs ventilated front discs, solid rear discs and four-wheel ABS. No primary source publishes rotor dimensions for this truck, so this page does not state them. If you need them for a specific truck, we will read them off that vehicle's build sheet.
EPA
2026 Canyon Fuel Economy by Drivetrain
Fuel economy tracks the drivetrain and the tires, not the trim badge. The 4WD Elevation, the AT4 and the Denali are rated identically. The off-road trims pay for their hardware at the pump.
| Configuration | City | Highway | Combined |
|---|---|---|---|
| Elevation 2WD | 19 MPG | 23 MPG | 20 MPG |
| Elevation 4WD | 17 MPG | 22 MPG | 19 MPG |
| AT4 | 17 MPG | 22 MPG | 19 MPG |
| Denali | 17 MPG | 22 MPG | 19 MPG |
| AT4X | 17 MPG | 17 MPG | 17 MPG |
| AT4X with AEV Edition | 16 MPG | 16 MPG | 16 MPG |
Note what the AT4X row is telling you: its city and highway ratings are identical. A taller lift, mud-terrain rubber and the aerodynamics of a lifted truck erase the highway advantage entirely. Driving range depends on tank capacity, which GMC does not publish for the Canyon, so this page does not multiply the two together.
Decision grid
2026 Canyon Key Features by Trim
A curated grid of the features buyers actually decide on. S = standard. O = available. — = not standard equipment on that trim. Every cell here is sourced to GMC at that trim's scope; features GMC does not scope publicly are left off the grid entirely rather than guessed at.
| Feature | Elevation | AT4 | Denali | AT4X |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 11.3-in. touchscreen with Google built-in | S | S | S | S |
| 11.0-in. digital Driver Information Center | S | S | S | S |
| Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto | S | S | S | S |
| Push-button start | S | S | S | S |
| HD Rear Vision Camera with Hitch View | S | S | S | S |

| Off-Road Performance Display | S | S | S | S |
| Bose 7-speaker premium audio | O | O | S | S |
| HD Surround Vision | — | — | S | S |
Seven of nine rows are standard on all four trims. That is the real story of this lineup: the entry Canyon is not a stripped truck, and the money you spend climbing the ladder buys traction hardware, materials and cameras rather than screens or connectivity. The full per-trim breakdown with step-up costs is on the trims and pricing page.
Safety
Safety and Compliance
Standard on every 2026 Canyon trim: the HD Rear Vision Camera with Hitch View, the ProGrade Trailering System, and the Off-Road Performance Display. HD Surround Vision is standard on the Denali and the AT4X, and the AT4X adds front- and rear-facing underbody cameras for up to 10 available views.
GMC groups the Canyon's driver-assistance content into two named packages, Canyon Pro Safety and Canyon Safety Plus, and does not publish their contents or their trim availability on any public 2026 specification page. Because the contents change by model year and by trim, this page does not list them. Check the window sticker on the specific truck, or ask us and we will read it to you. Current crash-test results are published by the agencies that perform them: nhtsa.gov and iihs.org. As of this writing the Canyon does not carry either of the institute's top awards.
Coverage
2026 GMC Canyon Warranty Coverage
Coverage below is GMC's published new-vehicle warranty, read from GMC today. Terms can change, so confirm them in the warranty booklet that comes with the truck.
| Coverage | Term |
|---|---|
| Bumper-to-bumper limited warranty | 3 years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first |
| Powertrain limited warranty | 5 years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first |
| Sheet-metal corrosion | 3 years or 36,000 miles |
| Rust-through corrosion | 6 years or 100,000 miles |
| First scheduled maintenance visit | One visit within the first year of delivery |
GMC describes the powertrain term as the typical duration and notes that others exist, so verify it against the booklet for your specific truck. That first covered visit includes an oil change, a multi-point inspection and a tire rotation, and our GMC-certified shop on Highway 270 handles it for owners as far out as Hope and Nashville. Roadside Assistance is included with a new GMC, but GMC does not publish a duration for it on its warranty page and routes owners to their own plan, so this page does not state one. Service intervals, what each one costs to own, and the GM Engine Oil Life System are covered on the Canyon maintenance schedule page.

What These 2026 Canyon Numbers Mean in Practice
Specifications only matter where they meet a garage door, a boat ramp or a back seat. A mid-century carport in Arkadelphia and a new build in Diamondhead are not the same problem. Here is what the table above actually decides.
| The number | What it runs into | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 72.4 in. wide, mirrors folded | A single garage bay, typically eight feet wide | It fits with the mirrors folded. A double bay is comfortable without folding. |
| 213.2 in. long | A typical 20-foot garage bay | Roughly two feet to spare. You can walk behind it; you cannot drop the tailgate fully. |
| Overall height, not published by GMC | A standard garage door | Measure the truck you are buying, then measure the door. Roof racks change the answer. |
| Second-row legroom, not published by GMC | A crew-cab rear bench that adults sit in daily | Fine for kids and short trips. Two adults in back on a long drive will notice. |
| Denali payload of 1,390 pounds | Passengers, cargo AND trailer tongue weight all count against it | GMC recommends tongue weight of 10 to 15 percent of the trailer. Subtract that from the payload before you load the bed, not after. |
| 6,000 lbs of towing on an AT4X | Properly equipped on the same Crew Cab and TurboMax, the AT4 is rated at 7,700 lbs for less money | If trailering matters more than trail hardware, the AT4 is the truck. Buying the AT4X for capability costs you hitch rating. |
The grades running out toward the national forest are short but steep, and a mid-size truck pulling near its rating will hold a downshift longer than a full-size will. That is a real argument for staying under the ceiling rather than at it. If you tow regularly, the Canyon AT4 on our lot is the configuration that reconciles these numbers best: the lineup's full tow rating, a payload figure above the Denali's, and the traction hardware for a wet ramp off Highway 270. Drivers come to us from Bryant, Arkadelphia and Hope to sort exactly this out. Run the cost with our payment calculator.

2026 Canyon Specifications FAQs
How much can the 2026 GMC Canyon tow?
Properly equipped with the conventional hitch, the Crew Cab Elevation, AT4 and Denali each tow up to 7,700 lbs on the 2.7L TurboMax. The AT4X is rated at 6,000 lbs. Fitted with the AEV Edition package it is rated at 5,500 lbs, because that off-road suspension and those tires reduce trailer capability.
What is the payload capacity of the 2026 Canyon?
It depends on the trim and drivetrain. Elevation 2WD payload is 1,670 pounds. Elevation 4WD payload is 1,610 pounds. AT4 payload is 1,570 pounds. Denali payload is 1,390 pounds. AT4X payload is 1,260 pounds. Tongue weight from a trailer counts against payload, so subtract it before you load the bed.
Will a 2026 GMC Canyon fit in a standard garage?
Length is 213.2 in., which clears a 20-foot bay with room to open the tailgate partway. Width is 72.4 in. with the mirrors folded, so a single bay works if you fold them, and a double bay is comfortable. GMC does not publish an overall height for the Canyon, so measure the truck against your door.
What are the 2026 Canyon's dimensions?
Every 2026 Canyon is a Crew Cab with a short bed: 213.2 in. long on a 131.4-in. wheelbase, 72.4 in. wide with the mirrors folded. The bed measures 5.1 ft. long by 4.8 ft. wide and holds 41.9 cu. ft.
Does every 2026 Canyon trim get the same engine?
Yes. The 2.7L TurboMax turbocharged four-cylinder is standard on every 2026 Canyon trim, rated at 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic and a 3.42 rear axle. There is no diesel, no hybrid, and no engine upgrade anywhere on the ladder.
