Oil Change Intervals and Service

Every 7,500 miles, and because tire rotation lands on the same interval, most Terrain owners only book one kind of appointment. Our certified service oil change includes the rotation and a multi-point inspection on the same visit, which is the efficient way to run this car.

If your Terrain sits more than it drives, change the oil at least once a year regardless of what the monitor says. Long humid summers and short ice-storm winters age batteries and wiper blades faster here than the mileage on the odometer suggests, and oil that sits is oil that collects moisture.

Major Service Milestones

30,000 miles

Routine oil and rotation continue. Tires become a live question: tread depth at 1/16th of an inch or less means replacement is due. Both air filters will have been through at least one cycle. Tire service is where this one lands.

60,000 miles

The busiest milestone. Coolant flush and replacement, battery replacement becomes likely at roughly four to five years of service, and the first major brake job usually falls somewhere between 40,000 and 60,000 miles: pads and rotors. Powertrain warranty coverage also ends here, at 5 years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first.

100,000 miles

Belts and hoses will have been inspected and probably replaced around 70,000 miles, transmission fluid inspected at the same point, and shocks and struts checked between 60,000 and 75,000. Rust-through protection runs to 6 years or 100,000 miles. Beyond this the schedule is a continuation rather than a new set of items.

The current-generation Terrain was redesigned for 2025 and carries into 2027 with one significant powertrain change: the 8-speed automatic is now used on front-wheel-drive Terrains as well as all-wheel-drive ones. That simplifies the service picture, because there is now a single transmission across the lineup.
