The 2027 GMC Terrain comes in three trims: Elevation from $30,400, AT4 from $39,100 and Denali from $42,200, each excluding the $1,995 destination charge. That is an $11,800 spread from the entry point to the top, and the useful thing to understand before you shop is that AT4 and Denali do not sit one above the other. They are two different answers to two different questions, and both sit above the Elevation.

Terrain Elevation, from $30,400
Front-wheel drive is standard on the Elevation and all-wheel drive is available. The 1.5L Turbo four-cylinder and 8-speed automatic are the only powertrain offered, here and on every other Terrain. Standard on the Elevation: heated front seats and a heated steering wheel, the 15-inch Premium GMC Infotainment System with Google built-in, an 11-inch Driver Information Center, 17-inch Grazen Metallic machined aluminum wheels, heated premium cloth front seats, a 60/40 split-folding rear seat, and up to four selectable drive modes. The Terrain also carries over 16 safety and driver assistance features as standard equipment on every trim.
Two factory editions sit on the Elevation rather than above it. Elevation Premium adds brushed aluminum roof side rails, 19-inch Technical Gray machined-face wheels, CoreTec seating material, dual-zone automatic climate control, the AutoSense liftgate and wireless smartphone charging. Black Edition is styling: 19-inch gloss-black wheels, a darkened grille and C-shaped surrounding bezel, black mirror caps, black roof side rails and black exterior accents and badging. Technology Package II is available on the Elevation and brings HD Surround Vision, a Cabin Glance interior camera, the Rear Camera Mirror, Rear Pedestrian Alert, Traffic Sign Recognition and front LED fog lamps.

Terrain AT4, from $39,100
All-wheel drive is standard on the AT4, and it is the only Terrain with an off-road-tuned suspension. Standard on the AT4: a lifted ride height with red front recovery hooks, a front skid plate with a steel underbody shield, 17-inch Dark Machined aluminum wheels wearing all-terrain tires, Hill Descent Control, a unique darkened grille, and up to six selectable drive modes including an AT4-only Terrain mode alongside Normal, Snow/Ice, Off-Road and Tow/Haul. Inside, premium cloth and CoreTec seats in Forest Storm with Mahogany accents. Heated front seats, the heated steering wheel, the 15-inch screen, Google built-in and the 11-inch Driver Information Center all carry over from the Elevation. Technology Package II is available on the AT4 and adds the same camera and alert set.

Terrain Denali, from $42,200
All-wheel drive is standard on the Denali. Standard on the Denali: perforated leather-appointed front seats that are heated and ventilated, heated rear outboard seats, animated headlamps and taillamps, HD Surround Vision and the Rear Camera Mirror, a Galvano chrome grille, and 19-inch Midnight Silver machined-face aluminum wheels on all-season tires. Twenty-inch After Midnight wheels are available on the Denali. The Denali also runs a McPherson strut front suspension with Smart Frequency Damper technology, which is the chassis difference behind how settled it feels over a broken surface.

Terrain Elevation vs AT4
The $8,700 between them is hardware, not luxury. The AT4 adds all-wheel drive as standard, an off-road-tuned suspension with a lifted ride height, a front skid plate with a steel underbody shield, red front recovery hooks, all-terrain tires on 17-inch Dark Machined wheels, Hill Descent Control and two extra drive modes. The cabin is close: the same 15-inch screen, the same heated seats and heated wheel, with CoreTec and Forest Storm trim in place of the Elevation's cloth. If your surface changes, the AT4 is the answer. If it does not, the Elevation's money goes further inside the car.
Terrain AT4 vs Denali
Only $3,100 apart, and they diverge rather than stack. The Denali trades the AT4's lift, skid plate and all-terrain tires for ventilated leather-appointed front seats, heated rear outboard seats, HD Surround Vision and the Rear Camera Mirror as standard, animated lighting, the Galvano chrome grille and 19-inch wheels. Both are all-wheel drive as standard and both use the same engine and gearbox. Pick by where the car spends its time, not by price.
Terrain Elevation vs Denali
Buyers make this jump more often than either of the others, and it is a straight comfort-and-visibility move for $11,800. All-wheel drive becomes standard, the seats become perforated leather-appointed and ventilated, the rear outboards get heat, the surround camera and camera mirror stop being a package, and the suspension gets Smart Frequency Damper technology. Nothing about the Denali makes it more capable off pavement than the AT4.
